(back) Subject: Shifter Cable From: "jttrettel" <jttrettel@onemain.com> Date: Thu, 29 Mar 2001 21:41:55 -0500   I am sure some of you have been through this already, so I thought that I would float the question to the list. I am in need of a replacement = shifter cable since mine is slightly stretched and therefore the shifter notches = are not in sync with the gears in the trans.   My question for all of you is whether or not you are using an aftermarket cable or if you were forced to use a stock replacement cable. I have measured my cable and it is around 2'3" long. The closest aftermarket = cable I have found is from Jegs and it is listed as 2' in length. I am afraid to order this since it is not an exact match. What have all of you done?   Justin 69 Firebird 400
(back) Subject: Shifter Cable From: "jttrettel" <jttrettel@onemain.com> Date: Thu, 29 Mar 2001 21:41:57 -0500   I am in need of a new shifter cable for my 69 Firebird with a TH400. The original is stretched a little and does not shift the trans properly. Has anyone used an aftermarket piece or have you just used a stock = replacement.   Thanks, Justin 69 Firebird 400

Anyone know what that means? Help!   I've looked in all of the usual places and can't find much help. But here's what I did find:   Box 55 is for the window controls. A 551 would be power windows. If your car doesn't have these, it may just be a notation that this car was not to be assembled with that option. Or maybe power windows and some other related option.   Box 66 seems to be related to the voltage regulator. In a 1967 GTO, a 662 is a transistorized regulator for cars without A/C.   However, if anyone happens to have a 1967 Accesorizer Catalog from Pontiac, they may be able to shed some more light on this.     -BoB San Jose, CA 1968 convertible bob.cisneros@Sun.COM

(back) Subject: '67 Drum Brake Part Needed From: "David Learner" <davidlearner@yahoo.com> Date: Thu, 29 Mar 2001 19:21:41 -0800 (PST)   In going through the brakes on the '67 I just bought, the drivers side front is missing the pivot bar and spring located just underneath the wheel cylinder. It is a flat metal bar with a notch in each end, and a spring over one end. If there is anyone on the list who could sell me these parts I would greatly appreciate it. I'm not sure, but I suspect that they are the same for all four wheels and all three years. Please e-mail me off list if you can help me. With some fabrication maybe an early model could be bolted up. A turbo doesn't require much compression but adequate fuel delivery might = be a problem. I would think a 350 or 400 would be a better candidate, = especially when you think about the strengthening the bottom end of a 455 could be costly. The car might be worth redoing. Might be a good home to a 350 mill =   that has nothing better to do. So many projects so little time. Pete

He =   said the #7 always hits the steering box, even though Hooker says it only fits manual boxes? He told me that you have to dent the tube a minion of = 3/4 of an inch. and less if you grind alittle away from the box. I tried to find his site but it was found but not responding?? Maybe =   try later. He told also me he had also seen the new Indian advancers = headers for firstgens. and they have a slip fit tube to clear the box. I have = never owned a pair of slip fit sectioned headers. Maybe you should look into = them. Hope to find out more on round port headers. I'm still not sure if I'm = going to get some round port E-heads, But would defiantly like too. Tell me = what you guys find out or do. John Costello

From: "Glenn Uettwiller" <birdman@gdi.net> Date: Fri, 30 Mar 2001 03:19:24 -0500   If the Camaro had both a hood tach, it's probably a Joel Rosen car, the guy who owned Motion Performance in Baldwin NY (on Long Island). He also used the Poncho Rallye II wheels with a custom center cap for the Chevy. Actually, he'd build just about anything a customer wanted!   Glenn aka birdman   PS I remember those Motion Phase III cars (Corvettes, Chevelles and Camaros) kicking around Long Island when I was a kid; and the mahogany steering wheel on my 'bird came from there as a Christmas present from my exwife back in 1977. (back) Subject: Re: Engine paint... From: "Glenn Uettwiller" <birdman@gdi.net> Date: Fri, 30 Mar 2001 03:26:38 -0500   Brett, that dark blue was actually the correct color for 455 Oldsmobile engines. I remember rebuilding a relative's 1970 442 and using that color. Plus, it's the same on my 1976 GMC Motorhome with the Olds 455, and every 73-78 GMC Coach that hasn't been rebuilt, including the 77-78 403 Olds smallblock. I have a couple cans from NAPA here for when I get my Motorhome angine back together, from Martin Senour #7959, labelled "Olds Blue". When I was a mechanic in the 70's I definitely recall many Olds cars (455's) having that blue, then some Pontiacs showing up with it, I thought it was the '75 model year. Your note skipped the 1973 year, I wonder what's up with that?   Glenn aka birdman     > Jim, I had a hard time finding the correct "Early" Pontiac Metallic Blue > paint, > until I found Bill Hirsch engine paints. If I'm wrong here fellas, 50 lashes = with a wet noodle...   Master cylinder - ANY parts store. If you do get a new one - get a booster from a donor car so you can have power brakes. I got my booster from a salvage yard '71 Skylark to be exact. Then I went and turned in my old master cylinder for a new 71 skylark cylinder. - I bench bled it (ya = gotta do that, it wont work if you dont) and waaalaa I had great easy stopping power. I think you can get your booster from any of the following...69-72Grand Prix, Pre74 Nova, Apollo, Omega, Ventura = ,70-72Monte Carlo, 68-72 A Body GM(Skylark, Chevelle, Cutlass, Lemans)   As far as the remote mirror - If your car was an early one say, preDec = '67, It had a round remote mirror like mine. If it was post Dec '67/Jan'68 It more than likely had a square remote mirror. they started making '68's = with round and then went to square. Everyone has there different ideas of = why. Some people even swear that they never had round. Well I broke mine and = so I had to get another one from a Bonniville. (the part #'s were the same except for the last digit) the round remote for the f-birds are so rare I looked for almost a year. then Clayton out of TN sold me the one off the Bonnivlle. Thanks Clayton -   As for the Neutral Safety switch -- I had the same problem with a Hurst Ratchet shifter. I had to go to Napa and buy male and female connectors, connect them with 16 gage wires (four wires about 8" long) and then I inserted the female connector to the harness and the male connector on the ratchet shifter neutral safety switch. it works like a charm.   Just thought I'd cime in.
