(back) Subject: RE: Voltage Regulator... From: "Trimpe, Bob" <TrimpeB@rajones.com> Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 07:57:32 -0500 Chris, My 68 had the same setup -- right down to the condenser with the broken wire! However, mine is the original GM regulator. I replaced the condenser with the same type that goes inside the distributor. I don't think you can go wrong, it's just for RF noise control. Any moving electrical part, such as those in the distributor and condenser, create electrical noise when operating. Regards, Bob Trimpe -----Original Message----- My voltage regulator is not a GM part. It has an external condenser ( I think, look's just like the one in a points dist.) with a broken wire right were it goes into the condenser. I this correct for my application ? The GM dealer has no listing for this piece, and I don't see it in any parts book's. Any ideas where to get it, if it's correct for my car ? Thanks all. Chris `68 350 H.O. Drop-top

(back) Subject: tough bolts... From: "danny" <dannyboylll@qwest.net> Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 07:52:41 -0700 there is a tool called an "easy out" it is designed to remove really = tough bolts /screws etc. it works great. i am a helicopter mechanic in the airforce and we use them all the time to pull titanium bolts out of magnesium gearboxes. you can't hammer on it or it will crack the = magnesium, so what you do is to place the easyout on the head of the bolt and tap on = it lightly it acts like an impact wrench and twists the bolt out a little at = a time. i have removed stuff up to 800 ft-lbs of torq with these. i have = no idea where you can buy them though?? but for everyone out there with some rusty bolts this works great. -danny rietman 68 400 coupe

Anybody have any suggestions on what to replace it with and what sort of wiring modifications I need to do? Thanks, Jacob '69 350 conv.<< I'd go with one of these. I have a few cars that I'm going to upgrade to a hi output unit. I've heard good things about these guys. They have them on ebay all the time, or you could contact them directly and get one for about $50! Copy & paste ALL of the address below then go check out the last Pontiac Alt. they had for auction. And you can contact them from there. Hope this helps! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3D5665338= 23& r=3D0&t=3D0 Brett 67 Drop Top 455!

Which year power steering pump and alternator did you use? I'm putting a 73' 455 in my 67' FB and am changing it over to the 67's correct 8 bolt water pump for more of = a correct look and so to 67' accessory's pulleys line up WAY easier than trying to mix and match the differnt years . My firebird project been on hold for = a while, And a pontiac friend just told me that I may have a problem finding = a balancer to clear the 67' timing cover and fit the 455 crank. Has anyone else ran into a problem like this? John Costello<< John, Mine too is a 73' 455. I was all set to use the Timing cover off of the 326 as it was a brand new pump etc... But I saw some minor damage on the inside of it, and the 455 timing marks have a wider range than the 326 timing marks, so I went with the later 455 cover. I figured that 90% wouldn't know to look that close. I have a performer intake (ground off the Edelbrock logos) and a few other things that I have tried to hide. But, I'm hoping that with all to look at, most won't notice the little things like that. Also going with only 400 emblems on the 400 Tach hood. Take a look here: (just wait for the pix to load) http://www.geocities.com/jetta2point0/Firebird1.html Hope this helps, Brett! Oh, by the way, I used the 326 Balancer, seems fine! And I have seen the "NEW" Pontiac commercial! The show almost all pre 69 cars then the new ones... Great shots, not a long enough = commercial! Never thought I'd say that! - Brett!

Cam, 750 Double pump holley, Preformer RPM, 12 bolt 410 Posi rear, 3500 stall, etc. 2 Questions. I have been warned that better tie the front clip to the back, or the torque/ power will soon warp/ twist the Uni-Body. Any thoughts, Ideas, Suggestions? When built the car, i was living in La La land, within and hours drive of two Drag strips. That was the idea for the 3500 Stall. I have a '94 Fyrehawk for a daily driver. Now, In western Az, I am 200 miles form the tracks in Phoeniz, or Vegas. I would like to drive in on the street. a 1500 or so stall seems to make more sense. Maybe a 4 speed auto. Again, any ideas or suggestions? Anyone know of a good mechanic out here (Lake Havasu, Az) that could help out, and not charge 2 arms and legs? (often called condensors in automotive applications). They are mounted near RF noise generating equipment like the regulator or heater fan blower. the distributor condensor may work OK but because it had a different purpose = (I believe to keep arcing down on the points) it may have a different mfd capacity. I looked up the voltage regulator capacitor on the '68 and = found part 1960957 - not sure if that is right though for your car. Jim '68 400HO convert
(back) Subject: Re: Front/ Back Clips From: <hugoba@apcom.com> Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 09:57:24 -0800 (PST) You can get the bolt-on subframe connectors and then weld them on = (actually if it's a coupe you can get the weld-on's just as well) and that will provide some help. A cage may be a better way to go but they are a bit intrusive.
