(back) Subject: Horn Help From: "Keith Donmoyer" <kadonny@hotmail.com> Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2001 09:58:21 -0500 Chris, Right Rowans car. Thanks much. See what I mean about the horns twisting = in different directions? I am a little confused about the whole thing. If = the car only had one horn, I assume it was mounted on the hood latch support(like yours), was it the high horn only or did they make a separate = horn for cars with only one? Also Chris, do your brackets look the same? On little different note, I checked out the placement of the horns in my Camaro (taboo) assembly manual. They show them mounted the same as = Rowans, one on the hood latch support and one on the right side of the radiator = and the horn bugles are facing torwards the ground. Any other help is appreciated. Keith 68 H.O. Subject: Horn help ??? From: "Chris Porter" <fxstsb@pop.sttl.uswest.net> Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2001 16:25:02 -0800 That pix was from Rowan's car, not Hugo. I looked at the only horn I have. The one pictured on the left of the bottom left picture look's like the only one I have. It was mounted on the hood latch support, left side, almost directly facing the radiator when installed. Hope this will help you. .. Chris `68 350 H.O. (back) Subject: Rechroming Recommendations From: "Keith Donmoyer" <kadonny@hotmail.com> Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2001 10:24:47 -0500 John, Here is my opinion on the whole rechroming issue. Let me preface this by saying I am a fan of keeping as many of the original parts on the car as possible and refinishing or restoring them whenever possible. However...small things like the badges and emblems, radio ant. masts, mirrors and even the door handles are not cost effective to rechrome and = the repros are of very good quality. Now, the larger items such as window frames (if any) and bumpers especially, if they are in good condition are worth rechroming. Many times, the repros are of lesser quality (if they = are even available) than the originals and the larger items stand out more on = a car. Please remember that this is my opinion only, others may think differently. The best advice is to get the price to rechrome the items = and the price and quality of the repros and then make you own value judgement. = Hope this helps. Keith 68 H.O. Subject: rechroming recommendations From: <Studderin@aol.com> Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2001 23:21:08 EST Speaking of recroming. I was planning on buying most new stuff (bumpers, mirrors, door = handles) can I assume that most of there's repo's are all made in the same place = and probably overseas? I know that goodmark makes the steal 400 hoods, and CI, Y1 and ames = all sell (distribute) them. I heard good things about AMES in the list and was planning on using them, but is there stuff different from what the others sell? I will be soon be rebuilding my doors my vent window frames (67 coupe) are all pitted as are the rear quarter window frames. I haven't seen a repo. What have any you done on your restorations? Do I have to disassembly them and any tips on how do I get glass out, If I have to recrome them? (back) Subject: OHC Lash Adj Setup From: "Jeff Frey" <FREYJ@mascorp.com> Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2001 16:20:43 -0800 Dear Cammers, I am still trying to get my ohc 6 the way I want. I am moving from a 1-bbl to 4-bbl sprint set up, but seem to hit road blocks at every turn with the lash adjusters. Right now the 1 bbl carb and int/exh is still on the car. I have been fooling with the head and cam. While running my rebuilt - reground 1 bbl cam, I had to use a .075" shim spacer under the lash adjuster to get the noise out of the valve train. This has run fine for several years. 2 - 3 weeks ago, I swapped in a 4bbl cam. The car ran much better, but I needed to place a total of .120 shim spacers under the lash adjuster to = get the noise out of the valve train. You can imagine what a pain in the ass = it is to repeatedly pull the cam cover to get the shims just right. This ran fine for several 2-3 weeks and I pulled the cover several times to check = for prob's and found no damage. Last weekend, I decided I needed some more compression. I installed the 4bbl head with the 4bbl cam, and cannot get the noise out of the valve train. I have shimmed my lash adjusters by .140" so far. I am afraid to go any farther, because the geometry may be getting quite poor, and the = lash adjuster is getting very close to the edge of the top grove and may not = ride correctly if I get to the recessed area of the barrel. I am ready to go back to the 1 bbl head with the 4 bbl cam just because I have to get rid of the rocker noise, but don't want to. Any ideas on what to do? The thing is pinging quite a bit right now (on reg) , but the octane boost hasn't had a chance to mix in. Will I be able to run the 10.5 :1 heads on ethyl pump gas? I had hoped for a miracle when I put the new head on, but the 4bbl head / 4bbl cam setup is doggy compared to the 4bbl cam /1 bbl head. Nothing is really set up, but I expected another nice chunk of power, similar = increase to the cam install. Should I expect a nice increase? Or does the head not matter so much? Thanks, Jeff

(back) Subject: 1969 Deluxe Dash Restoration From: "Patrick W. Thompson" <patrickt@compucominc.com> Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2001 20:09:14 -0800 Anyone have an outlet for getting a dash restored? I have a 69 = convertible with deluxe interior and suffice it to say the wood grain on the dash and console are badly faded. I found an excellent console out of a hardtop so that problem has been solved. The dash however I have had no luck in finding in decent shape so far. The car has factory air and power top as well. Although the power top switch hole is no problem, the A/C hole = seems a little more complicated than just cutting the area out. I maybe wrong there. Anyway, the radio area was butchered by someone to fit an aftermarket radio in there so I either need an entire deluxe dash in great shape or find someone who can graph in a new piece for the radio area and restore the luster to the genuine simulated wood grain. :^) I heard once of a shop in the Bay Area that did this type of work but cannot find the info now. Any ideas? Pictures of the car are at the following link until I can get a web page beginning to detail what is sure to be a very slow restoration. These = are shots taken about a week after we purchased car. All in all it is pretty good shape, but needs a lot of work nevertheless. http://people.we.mediaone.net/patrickt1 Patrick W.
