I checked with Performance Years about a year ago and they told me that = they had some made and would be getting it in a few weeks. Turns out it = was not up to standard. They told me they were still working on it. I have read/been told from a couple of sources that people were working on = this. Any updates or ideas on where we can get ahold of this material to = refurbish our consoles. I'll bet just about all of us with 68/69 birds = would have use for this. I don't think that we need to have the actuall covers and doors = remaufactured, I'm thinking if we could just get an adhesive film (like = contact paper only thicker) and recover the parts that we have. I wonder = does anyone know if you can get burled walnut in wood veneer? (back) Subject: Engine compartment paint From: "Brett Luikkonen" <brett@cisdirect.com> Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2001 07:19:50 -0600 Subject: Engine compartment paint From: "Chris Porter" I just got off the phone with a close friend at a local GM dealer. I was asking about engine compartment paint. He told me he can still get it, but only by the case. I get real good prices through him. But I don't need a case. If enough people would like some, I'll buy a case and ship it to those interested for the same price I get it for + shipping. He said about 3 to 4 buck's a can. Is this the way to go ? Is there a better solution to painting my compartment ? Just thought I'd offer, and ask everyone Chris `68 350 H.O. Drop-top. Hi Chris, Brett here, I actually got some Engine Compartment paint at Groit's Garage in Fife, right near us in WA. Or http://www.griotsgarage.com/index.jsp They have everything... for a price. But it's the best. I just used some = of the paint yesterday, their "Satin Black" and the spray nozzle and the paint is Top Notch! Much better than anything else I have found. By the can it was = about $4-5 and they have cleaners, prep, anything... Just FYI if you don't want to = buy a case or have enough takers, this is an option? Also, if I get my motor in and get the car driving soon, I'll help with = your swap if you need? Depending on your situation as you were talking about Garages... We may be able to do the swap at my place if you need? I have a Hoist from = a neighbor for a while, as long as I'm swapping motors... Just thought I'd at least offer... Brett!

(back) Subject: Seatbelts for a 69 Convertable From: "Patrick W. Thompson" <patrickt@compucominc.com> Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2001 09:07:45 -0800 Hi all, Looking for a set of shoulder belts, preferably blue, for a 1969 Firebird Convertible. Prefer to have the full set of front and rear shoulder belts but minimally the front shoulder set would do. Anyone have a line on some please let me know. Thanks Patrick
(back) Subject: RE: Burled Walnut Console Applique From: "Trimpe, Bob" <TrimpeB@rajones.com> Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2001 13:18:02 -0500 Larry, I used a piece of actual burled walnut wood veneer to build my custom shifter bezel. See the pics at: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=3D574120&a=3D4193636&p=3D3485289= 8&f=3D0 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=3D574120&a=3D4193636&p=3D3485289= 4&f=3D0 My job (on the right) looked very close to the original. Only difference = was the original has a camera grain, rather than a wood grain. The color on = mine was also a little brighter, but that could be due to the age of the = console. I got the veneer from a local woodworking supply house (NOT a lumber = yard). (back) Subject: Horn Help From: "Keith Donmoyer" <kadonny@hotmail.com> Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2001 15:09:23 -0500 Well, my much planned cruise for yesteday got postponed. I started wrenching in the morning and did not get done until late. Oh well, I enjoyed that almost as much. I am seeking some help on my horns. If you get a chance, please go to my page http://www.geocities.com/kldonny/Keiththird.html and check out the horn pics. I took these off my car. Now I know they were mounted in the wrong place, and I got a picture of the correct placement from the list. If I look at the horns that came off my car with = the horns in the picture (was it Hugo's pic?....Chris help here please you = sent it to me) my horns are twisted in a clockwise fashion when the horns = I have seen elsewhere (in the picture )are twisted counterclockwise. Are my = horns not original? Also the mounting brackets are welded on to the horns = and they seem as if they are also incorrect for the proper placement. My other problem is that the high note horn is not working....I checked the wiring, the relay etc. all are working (low horn is fine) but high note is = not functioning. Any suggestions? Any help is appreciated. Thank you. Keith 68 H.O. (back) Subject: 69 Nose Filler Rubber Sealant? From: "Jeff Lane" <JeffLane32@hotmail.com> Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2001 16:38:56 -0500 The rubber piece that attaches to my nose filler panel (batwing, or whatever the correct term is) had a lot of overspray from a previous paint job (nice) , so I took it off and lightly sanded it down to bare rubber. Worked great, but now it's dull bare rubber and doesn't match the = headlight rubber filler pieces - which are glossy. If I knew of a place that sells this thing, believe me, I would just replace it - but it seems to be a = very hard part to find. Does anyone know what type of sealant to use to get this thing nice and shiney again? Thanks, Jeff.

Is this correct? Also, what is the = correct GM color for the inlay? Also, can anyone recommend a chrome plater that uses copper during = process? I need my deluxe handles, outer mirror and bumpers done. Thanks...Tom Tom, buy new or repro emblems. Its cheaper and you get a better job. I dont have any input on the repro bumpers, instead of replating them, but I know Tricities plating will do a nice job for around $200 each. Unless you have a remote mirror and cant find a replacement, also buy a new one or repro.Above all DO NOT send anything to Pot metal Restorations or Chrome palastic replaters in Tallahassee,Fla. They ruined my 68 Remote mirrors(2 of them) then refused to pay for it. I currently am dealing with Hemmings ,from whom I got the ad for replating = my parts.Hemmings has been wonderful in intervening on my behalf . Hope no one else has this problem,as Ive been trying to resolve this since Aug of 2000. Gary

My existing bumpers have shine, but close inspection reveals small pits that can barely be felt running fingers over. As far at mirror and emblems, thanks for the reality = check. I was planning on buying most new stuff (bumpers, mirrors, door = handles) can I assume that most of there's repo's are all made in the same place = and probably overseas? I know that goodmark makes the steal 400 hoods, and CI, Y1 and ames = all sell (distribute) them. I heard good things about AMES in the list and was = planning on using them, but is there stuff different from what the others sell? I will be soon be rebuilding my doors my vent window frames (67 coupe) = are all pitted as are the rear quarter window frames. I haven't seen a = repo. What have any you done on your restorations?
