(back) Subject: Re: Engine "TICK" From: "Tom Grzywacz" <ban67shee@hotmail.com> Date: Fri, 09 Mar 2001 17:34:15 -0500   John,   I replaced my 67 engine with a 77 as well..Same specs I believe. What I do =   is make sure that particular valve is closed. You can adjust when engine = is running, but clean the pushrod tip (between rocker and head) of oil first. =   Torque nut down until tick is gone, then another 1/4 to 1/2 turn..I have = the pushrod tip inbetween my thumb and index finger and roll it until slack is =   gone. Stock Pontiac rocker nuts are inferior and I had many problems with them loosening up. One night I was driving home, and a rocker nut loosened =   on me. When I torqued it down, was still real loose. What I did to temporarily correct the loose nut is to take a screwdriver and hammer (or reasonable facsimilie thereof) and score three evenly spaced impressions = on top of nut, (must hit hard) using ground for stability. This will tighten top rows of threads and get you home. I have a set of barely used stock Pontiac nuts (not the bad ones) from a set of stock heads....if you want them...Personally, I would invest $28 in a set of poly locks.   Tom       Hello all - I was wondering - cause I did as Tom suggested - I took off my valve cover and there was a certain Rocker loose. Oil was pumping through the push rod. Anyhow I tightened the rocker till I didnt hear the tick = any longer. How tight should they be? The book says 20#'s. that was for a 1968-400. i'm running a 1977 400 that is brand new rebuilt. Should I just put the valve cover back on? Call in a BOP man. $40.00 minimum. Hmmm....Any advice about this is surly & greatly appreciated. Thanks John     >>Any engine guys out there know what a "TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK >>TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK" coming from my engne is? (back) Subject: Re: Turn Signal Switch Part Number? From: <Jimc2002@aol.com> Date: Fri, 9 Mar 2001 17:35:24 EST   Bob,   Last year I replaced mine and went through the same issue. My 68 floor = shift automatic used the 1893592. The local Pontiac dealer helped look it up = and order it. (First he ordered the wrong part then on the second try settled = on this one.) It worked fine for my configuration. It did come with an = extra pin and wire which I cut out and removed a light socket that must be for = the an application of a column shifter.   GM charged $70.89 for it!!   Jim

(back) Subject: Re: Front-end rebuild questions From: "Dennis Rolston" <hotroddr@juno.com> Date: Fri, 9 Mar 2001 14:55:03 -0800   I love my PST front end kit. I dont care what others say.....I recommend it to anyone. If you want a more original ride go with the rubber but if you want a little firmer ride and durability go for the poly-graphite. I got the poly-graphite kit then I got a 1 1/8" sway bar and inner tie rod ends in addition to the regular front end kit. I had the bushings pressed into place by an alignment shop so I wouldnt mess up the a-arms. I didnt use a spring compressor. I have taken front suspension apart twice and have never used one.   Put the car on jack-stands, make sure it is secure, remove the shock, then put a floor jack under the lower a-arm and relieve a little spring tension. Also for safety, loosely bolt or lock a chain through the shock hole, through the spring and around the lower a-arm to make sure that just in case the spring gets loose, it won't go anywhere(make sure to leave slack to allow for the spring to expand). Now loosen the lower spindle nut and the upper spindle nut. Use a "pickle fork" which you can get on loan from autozone to break both sides of the spindle free. Make sure to leave the nuts on while doing this. then take off the lower spindle nut and then lower the lower a-arm carefully with the floor-jack until the tension on the spring is relieved. Now you can pull it out and you didnt even need that spring compressor. Hope this helps a little. If I could do this job. I am sure you can. Its not too hard so dont stress over it. I understand that the original tachs may need reworking to get them to operate properly.   -BoB San Jose, CA 1968 Convertible bob.cisneros@Sun.COM

The stock rocker nut should be tightened all = the way down! If you don't, it will come loose! The nut is not a jam nut = like a chevy.   Stumann > >I replaced my 67 engine with a 77 as well..Same specs I believe. What I = do >is make sure that particular valve is closed.
