Its a 700 trans if its a V-6 Camaro/Firebird with 2.8-3.4. 2004Rs were behind the 3.8s. The 700 for the 60deg V-6 has the same internals as a V-8 one but the case has a smaller bellhousing. It dawned on me when I saw the 83 V-6 listed on your stable roster. And while were totally off subject. I am in high school and I have 36 cylinders. a chevy 305, 307, and 350. A pontiac 350 and toyota 4cyl. Only two of those motors are actually in cars though. Not bad for under 18 yrs old though Dennis ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! From: "Slobird" <marcts@ga.prestige.net> Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 19:47:12 -0500   Hey Chris,   If you don't have a pontiac motor, an olds 455 has got to be the next best thing. I bet it pulls pretty hard with the 4 speed. Have you ever taken = it to the track? Got any times? Car crap olds was around 500 hp and 550 lb = ft with performer intake and comp cams xe278       I would just leave it alone   tim
(back) Subject: Re: welding.... From: "matt schmid" <schmidmj@hotmail.com> Date: Fri, 09 Mar 2001 02:50:38   Practice a lot before you actually put down your permanent weld on your headers or floorboard. Go buy some scrap metal of different gauges to try out. Make sure you practice on getting the current right and not heating = up the metal too much, it will warp badly if you do. One continuous weld on thin metal usually warps it if not done properly. Practice on thick metal and go thinner until you get the hang of changing current for different applications. Have you ever welded anything before?? If not, then if you know anyone that works in a buisness where they would have to weld, have them show you the technique. Telling someone how to weld and actually showing someone how to weld is completely different.   Matt Schmid >From: "danny" <dannyboylll@qwest.net> >Reply-To: "First Generation Firebird-L" = <Firebird-L@oakmediacreations.com> >To: "First Generation Firebird-L" <Firebird-L@oakmediacreations.com> >Subject: welding.... >Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 15:37:43 -0700 > >First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List >......................................................................... >I have some headers that i need to do some work on (floorpans also) and i >jsut bought a mig welder and gas bottle. the only problem is that i have >never really welded before anyone have any tips i know that welding = thin >metal can be tricky, but i have plenty of time to practice and i think i >can >do it. i am jsut curious as to what techniques work well for this type of >thing- -danny albuquerque nm > > _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
(back) Subject: Re: 400 engine, worth the time ? From: <PStonebrak@aol.com> Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 22:28:00 EST   If nothing else the heads would work great on a 455. So the engine is = running good? I say it is a deal at 200. Pete

(back) Subject: Economics 101 From: <PStonebrak@aol.com> Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 23:09:15 EST   Chris, If the Olds Bird runs good just find an Olds freak to buy it. If it = is in the car then a test drive just might be the ticket to sell it it to = him. One mans junk is another mans treasure. This would finance a Pontiac = engine and would possibly justify it to your pregnant wife. Pete
(back) Subject: Sprint HD From: "Chris Porter" <fxstsb@pop.sttl.uswest.net> Date: Thu, 08 Mar 2001 20:14:01 -0800   Hey Mike, I too have a '72 125 cc Hraley Davidson / Aeromacchi. (back) Subject: Re: Cheviac or Ponchette? From: <PStonebrak@aol.com> Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 23:26:23 EST   I'm sure we're all real happy for you. So whats the big deal. I've heard = it all. Small block Chevys are good motors, they just never were a problem = for my 455. Always looked lovely in my rearview mirror. Even the newest teched =   out ones. Cubic inches rule. Love that cheap torque! Pete
(back) Subject: track times From: "Chris Porter" <fxstsb@pop.sttl.uswest.net> Date: Thu, 08 Mar 2001 20:27:33 -0800   Nope, never taken her out to the track. Don't get me wrong, I love the way the engine runs. I pull's VERY hard. But when you pop the hood, it doesn't look right to me. I'm kind off anal ( so I'm told.....lol ) about the appearance of my cars ( and bikes ). I think it should look as close to original as possible. I had a `74 T/A 455 4-speed when I was 18, and a `76 T/A 400 when I was 21. I miss popping the hood and seeing that big Pontiac looking back at me.     Chris `68 350 H.O. Drop-top

When I was told the bracket's were different, that made me decide to hold off. I'll wait until the 455 comes around.     Chris `68 350 H.O. Drop-top
