(back) Subject: Re: Cheviac or Ponchette? From: "Tom Grzywacz" <ban67shee@hotmail.com> Date: Wed, 07 Mar 2001 22:26:59 -0500   "Well hmmm I think I maybe opened Pandoras box". To Quote...     Alot of the information on this site deal with the history of the Firebird, production, original equipment codes, restoration specs, restoration guides etc. Here lies information that you do not find = anywhere else, in such detail, in the .com world. I don't see how swapping engines from a Chevy to a first gen bird is relevant to list topics. Sure you have =   Pontiac sites (CP/PY) which have the engine swap, building a race motor, transmission swaps etc. There is a site (PY) which has a "tech talk" Q&A board which deals with this subject.   I frequent this site because I believe Geoff has great commitment maintaining this site and locating massive amounts of factual material concerning factory specs. A wealth of reliable and knowledgable = contributors (Glenn/John) are here as well. and all the BS aside, this is the best = first generation site out there. I like this site because it refrains from suggesting/implying major modifications, unlike other boards and sites. I guess I will have to deal with deleting all this Chevy crap from = now on...Time to install an ANTI "Chevy" email filter. Maybe you Pontiac/Chevy =   guys can start your own "mutt bird" site....   Tom     _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

(back) Subject: Engine question From: "Mic" <firemans68bird@yahoo.com> Date: Wed, 7 Mar 2001 21:28:22 -0800 (PST)   Hi all,   On Friday I am going to look at an engine for sale and I have a few questions. The guy who is selling it thinks it is a Pontiac 455 out of a '73 wagon, however he isn't positive. He says that it runs and he wants $400 for it. My questions are:   1) Besides getting the numbers off of it, what else should I look for to help identify it? 2) Where should I look for possible problems with the motor?   My plan for the engine is to rebuild it (it will be my first rebuild) and transplant it into my '68 'Bird (currently has a late '70s 350 w/HEI and 4bbl Q-jet.) Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!   =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D Michael   '68 Cameo 400 coupe http://communities.msn.com/Firemans68BirdNest   LEARN CPR, IT SAVES LIVES!!!!
