(back) Subject: Oil Filter Tip From: "Charlie & Rose Huntington" <badgoat@gwi.net> Date: Mon, 19 Feb 2001 17:44:15 -0500 I noticed that my 66 GTO used a NAPA #1049 filter and my 75 GV used a = #1258. I had my dealer check the specs (thanks Willie!). Everything compares except that the 1258 has the anti-drainback valve. The listing will = always show the factory replacement even when something better comes along. I'll be using the 1258 now on all my V8's. Sorry if you see this on more then one list. I'm posting it to wherever = it might be of interest. Check out www.badgoat.net

From: "Glenn Uettwiller" <birdman@gdi.net> Date: Mon, 19 Feb 2001 21:02:59 -0500 Hey, Rod, I guess you haven't seen enough of my posts to see just how convoluted my thinking is. That's one reason why I love the Sprint engine. My favorite class at NHRA events is the Comp Eliminator, where these guys run the weirdest car/engine combos in all of racing. Just to see the V-6's, inline 6's or straight 8's, maybe a Buick V-6 engine in a Maverick or an AMC 258 in a 27 T Dragster, is a draw for me, the weirder the better. Or just look at the engine swaps in the Hot Rod mags of the 50's. I have a friend (who used to race Jag D-types & FI Corvettes) who keeps trying to convince me that we should join 2 Sprints together to make a V-12 SOHC Pontiac 500 CI engine and create a modern SPFI system for it. Maybe this would be a great candidate for my 1976 GMC Motorhome? Glenn aka birdman PS What about Pegasus, the 2nd-gen Firebird with the Ferrari V-12 built for GM Styling VP Bill Mitchell? (back) Subject: Re: difference between 455 and 350 From: <Studderin@aol.com> Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2001 00:17:36 EST Joe, That is awesome! You should mess w/ the timings, get one of the = mr.gasket spring and weight kits. Keep the same weights just put alittle grease = under them. I started with the med. springs sense the heavy ones were heavier = than stock. There's a good article By Jim Hand at www.cyberramp.net/~firebyrd/jhand3.htlm He knows more about street tuning the Pontiac 455, than anyone. Just = remember his lemans wagons weights about 1,000 LB's more than your FB. Oh yeah... Never use timing tape on a Pontiac it will be way off, a = Pontiac dampener is 6.75"dia.. If you do the math 2.00 inch advanced or clockwise from the TDC mark is very very close to 34' at the crank ( use this mark = at the 0' mark not 12-14 BTC) . this is at a higher RPM after the weights are = open and vacuum is gone. 34' total is a good starting point. Hope this helps for tuning. JohnCostello
(back) Subject: Re: 73 intake manifold From: "Niklas Ridell" <vcc2.nridell@memo.volvo.se> Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2001 10:50:47 +0100 My guess is that the three holes was made to simplify the casting process. The inner sand cores for the runners were supported on these three points and the bosses were plugged afterwards. But on the other hand, so many intakes are cast without these bosses so I might be totally mistaken. Anyway... you can't use this intake with your '69 valley pan. The bosses will hit. If you want to use this intake get the valley pan from the same source you got the intake. Or even better, get a edelbrock performer or performer RPM that will flow better and save a lot of weight. /Niklas birdm58293@aol.com wrote: > I have a 73 intake manifold DATE C013 (MAR 01 1973) > CASTING # 494282, My question is what are the three plugs, for a lack of > better words, on the bottom of the manifold?
