I think the situation is like trying to be the ninth caller to a radio station to win those concert tickets. It's sheer luck to get the timing just right! It has also been my experience that when there is heavy bidding, the item usually sells for much more than it's worth anyway. = Ebay might be a place to find a rare item and pay dearly for it, but it is not = a place to find bargains!   Stumann   >I was steamed! The car sits about 1" lower now and it rides like if it was on rails.   I'll stick to cruising and maybe draging on the first gens and use the 4th = for that need-for-speed ;-)   Hugo   > From Firebird-L@oakmediacreations.com Thu Feb 15 18:08:50 2001 > X-Sender: gary@mail.tcworks.net > Date: Thu, 15 Feb 2001 19:06:57 -0500 > To: firebird-L@oakmediacreations.com > From: Gary Patrick <Gary@tcworks.net> > Subject: BeenTo145AndwantToGoEvenFaster > Mime-Version: 1.0 > > First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List > = ......................................................................... > > Subject: Re: An observation about us 1st genners > From: <hugoba@apcom.com> > Date: Wed, 14 Feb 2001 18:36:41 -0800 (PST) > > Im on the ba-f-body email list as well and the majority of the list = members > have > 4th gens and there is a pretty good mix of us old f@r+$ and younger guys = (and > gals as well). Barkla" <systech@tig.com.au> Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 16:40:40 +1100   I'm 37 (old!?) and have only been to the U.S. twice in my life. 1993 & last September. On my travels in '93 (which was driving thru 26 states over a 7 week period in...dare I say it....shudder...an Oldsmobile Firenza =   Station wagon...errrgh). During that trip I never had the luck to see a single 1st gen bird. Nor in Oz did we ever manufacture Birds or their = poor cousins the Cramo. Maybe a few birds were personally imported but I certainly never saw one here when I was a kid. I've always had a thing = for Cars generally and when I was in my teens I used to ...erh... I must admit =   it...admire the 1st gen Cramo (remebering that 327 here is a fair bit of grunt). I was always (and still am) obsessed with '55 & '57 Chebs and loved the Hemi stuff. But, one faithful day I saw a picture of a '68 Bird =   convertible and...well...maybe it's just the fact that I'm on this list = and am VERY proud to own one, but.....I really believe they have a CLASSIC & UNIQUE look. Not plain like their cousin and very different from the Fjord pony equivalent. There must be something to be said for the madness =   of the Poncho guys stuffing so much horseposwer in the F-body back then in =   67,8 & 9. Bless 'em. So, I never was your steriotypical American boy nor =   did I grow up around these fine cars, nor was I a teenager when they first =   hit the street (only 5), nor have I in fact EVER HAD A RIDE IN ONE ! So, = I put it down to the classic looks ie. 400 hood, chrome trim on the Qtrs, that "beak" out the front, the slits for tail lights and most especially the twin scoops and FACTORY Hood tach!....it says it all. I should also mention that here in Oz we never really got a "pony" sized car that had = so many cubic inches stuffed into it and could almost say "What's a convertible?" ......and when I say cubes I mean a car this size in Oz = would normally not be bigger than a 302/308....And my nephews (14 & 10) and daughter (5) drool over this baby..even when it's jujst a shell. ..... All =   hail the 1st gen bird !!! 8-<:~)... (now I'll cease my mad ravings and rock back and forward gently with trust drill & wire = wheel).........cheers, Dale '68 Conv.
(back) Subject: Re: AC or not to AC From: <F119flight@aol.com> Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 01:08:38 EST   Glenn, nice to know there is a "lister" so close. I'm actually off of 65W. =   No, my bird is blue with a white top. It's been in my garage more than on = the road lately as I am attempting to clean and re-lube all the windows slides =   and adjust everything to be aligned and weather tight. The former owner = just wanted a flashy car but had minimal mechanical talent (two hands to roll = up windows, doors difficult to open, lamp wire to the starter solenoid, only shifted into two gears, high beam headlamp buckets where low beams go, no hood rubbers, chrome tape instead of rocker molding............etc). I'm a =   long time GTO owner but without having worked on Birds this is a new/slow process for me. I sure could use a good model to follow. If your bird is pretty much together I'd like to take a look at it sometime.     In a message dated 2/13/01 5:53:42 PM Pacific Standard Time, jupoa@cyberpass.net writes:   << First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... Those five people can submit five different bids of different amounts, the one with the highest bid wins...kinda like the Trojan horse thing..If I see something I want, I =   bookmark it, and bid on it with 3 seconds left. I only bid what I think I should pay, and no more..there will be other items in the future...I = learned never to bid on an item prior to the last 5 seconds...just drives up the price.
