The difference is that most are adicted to going fast and = are into one form of racing or other. When a new member chimes in then it's a = free- for-all to help this nice unsuspecting person spend their hard earned = money on mods and go-fast goodies for their car. I guess some of us are re-living our adolescence and unfortunately we have = more money available to spend on these go-fast goodies. If we could only buy = some go fast parts for OUR bodies ;-) Hugo BeenTo145AndWantToGoEvenFaster! PS. Just to make sure, my son's first car is going to be a 67 326 HO that = we're working on. > From Firebird-L@oakmediacreations.com Wed Feb 14 13:20:20 2001 > X-Sender: bird@mail.javanet.com > Date: Wed, 14 Feb 2001 05:35:22 -0500 > To: "First Generation Firebird-L" <Firebird-L@oakmediacreations.com> > From: bird <bird@javanet.com> > Subject: An observation about us 1st genners > Mime-Version: 1.0 > > First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List > = ......................................................................... > Gang - I now participate in two firebird forums (fora?). I scratched my head for a while and then went on with what we were doing. Thanks for explaining it! Perhaps a 25,000RPM gas turbine powering a pair of 350 horse electric motors, Who knows. Anythig the manufacturers can put in a car will be transferable to a better car. I think the popularity of the thirdgen car = is primarily due to the plentiful supply. (back) Subject: Thanks for helping these bird parts find a home From: "x1r1 x" <x1r1@hotmail.com> Date: Wed, 14 Feb 2001 21:10:24 -0800 Id like to thank all those who have beren interested in Parts off my = car, there was too much there to junk it all and feel ok about it. It has been prety cool tearing this down, Ive learned a lot more about how = it is put together. During my Dissasembly, Ive found some pretty fair '67parts: Driver side fender and chin pretty fair, 2x2x3" rusty triangle and an = easy ding to fix under the Fireird badge Front Lamp wiring hanness, the outboard side of the bulkhead connector. = the big red wire needs a new ring connector at the +junctionblock. One ground also does. Harness is otherwise uncut, and still wraped in tape. = I haven't tested lamp sockets, but they look pretty good. Fits non guages car. Most of the retainer clips are intact. I don't know if 6cyl is a different harness, but i think the alternator is the only engine part on that side. Front Turn signals, lenses are beat, but there Front windsheild chrome...pretty good TH300 trans, fluid looks good, I think this car was kep up till they wrecked it. Dash has surface rust, but radio is uncut. 6cyl Power steering...Pump is not seized, hoses not leaking, but Idler = arm is bad I think the box is ok, but will nvestigate more soon. These ar probably the most interesting items that seem good, and are not = spoken for. (back) Subject: My poor Poncho! From: "x1r1 x" <x1r1@hotmail.com> Date: Wed, 14 Feb 2001 21:36:01 -0800 Had some noise up front, and found the balancer a tad loose. I got a new key, and pulled the dampener. The keyway was so beat I = couldnt get it loose with Vice grips, chisel, and Hammer! Thats when i measured 8 degrees of slack in the timing chain. Knowing I also needed a water pump, and no timing kit available localy, I put it = back together, and passed a whole bunch of cars on my way home. I had = previously determined that 2 or more cam lobes were not giving me full lift. = Recently had to replace the fuel pump. Now she wont start. When I purchased the car two years ago, Low oil pressure(a bad line to = the guage in reality), and some wierd noises from the engine had me convinced its days were numbered. The guy i bought it from had no idea about any history. The tranny went out about 6 months later. Anyway, I am not entirely surprised. It is looking pretty expensive(compared to a Chebby motor) to fix up what I have X5 8.0:1 block from a 74 fullsize, 4x heads. Edelbrock intake = package(don't know about the cam) and headers are prety nice. In my Garage, I have a 1990 Chevy Z71truck TBI motor, only needing a = head gasket, 100k Miles, new heads. Expect to see pics of this in my bird in = the near future! Purists...Sorry, Economic necessity. If I am not satisfied, = I can always change it back later. I will keep you posted as I progress, = and attempt to document my work by borrowing digital cameras when I get the chance. im hoping to start in about a week. Well, thats my sad story. ps. My housemate lost the motor in his BMW2002 the same day, Girlfriend driving without oil. : ( DOH! DOH! DOH! I mean WoooHooo!
