(back) Subject: 2001 HotRod Power Tour From: <hugoba@apcom.com> Date: Sat, 10 Feb 2001 11:18:54 -0800 (PST) Ok folfs, The 2001 Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour will travel from Pontiac MI to San Bernardino CA starting on May 3rd. What a better place to start a tour = like this! I'm planning on driving to the start and join the tour. How many of you = are planning on attending even for aprt of the way? It would be great to meet up with folks on the list along the way and = hopefully some of you will be brave enough to go the whole way. Last year I started from San bernardino and went as far as Albuquerque. My dilema is, I have never driven any of my 1st gens for that kind of = distance so I am concerned about reliability. At least this year it should not be = as hot since it's in early May. Last year we pulled into Phoenix and it was = 110! I took my 98 TA and it didn't flinch at the high temps with the AC going = full blast. I'd like to take either the 69 convertible or the 67 400. Neither = have a heating issue but... Anyway, let me know if any of you will be attending and also let me know = what you think about my concerns. BTW, the tour information is at: http://www.emapusaevents.com/touring_events/te_f.html Hugo

All I did in preparation was change the oil and buy tires. Ran like a top. Granted it was later in the year, but = still, it should be a piece of cake. Good Luck. Let me tell you. I put MAGNAFLOW performance exhaust mufflers with 2.5" pipes starting at BlackJack headers all the way to where it bends over the axle then went 2.25" the rest of the way. It seemed to give it a little back pressure and let me tell you it gave it a sorta real deepish not loud but heard sorta like coming from the back of your throat rumble. If you are thinking of exhaust really think about the Magna FLow. It's a straight = thru muffler. It's awesome when it idles you can hear the cam. If I'm cruizin at 30mph and I put my foot all the way on it - the tire spins. If I get on it = from a stand still it spins all the way from first into 3rd. It dont let up till I do. I need springs in the back though. Or I've also come to the conclusion - two people only. Nobody in the back seat. hee hee. Just thought I'd let you guys know. (back) Subject: Bay Area Firebird Guys From: "by way of Geoff Martin, <Geoff@firstgenfirebird.org>" <WSherrow@aol.com> Date: Sat, 10 Feb 2001 21:38:15 -0500 Hi Geoff, Could you forward again please. I'd like to share my experience with the Bay Area Firebird Guys. I noticed they had too much fun last weekend on their cruise when Geoff( not Martin) was in town and since I had a layover there, I thought I'd try and hook up with them. I e-mailed Bob Cisneros, told him when and where I would be there. He called saying he was trying to get the group together and would call back when plans were finalized. He called, picked me up in his 2000 Silver Bird and went to, "On the Border" for dinner where we met his wife with their 68 Emerald Green Ragtop Bird and Hugo and his son with their 67 White HT Bird. We had dinner, showed pictures of our cars, and talked for hours about Birds, then Bob drove me back to my hotel in the 68. What an awesome sounding engine! Most of us are just names on this list, total strangers, so to actually meet people and hit it off so well, like we've been friends for years, is a testament to this group. Thanks to Geoff Martin for this list, and many thanks to Bob, his wife, Hugo and his son for the "Bay Area hospitality". I hope I can reciprocate the hospitality to them or anyone on the list that travels to Raleigh, NC. Thanks, Dee Sherrow
(back) Subject: List Thanks (was Bay Area Firebird Guys) From: "Geoff Martin" <Geoff@firstgenfirebird.org> Date: Sun, 11 Feb 2001 05:51:34 -0500 Thank you. I am amazed everyday how the entire First Generation Firebird "package" has taken off. This is an example how the critics were wrong about the web. They were saying it would create a society with less social interaction. I tend to disagree from what I have seen. It has been fun watching the web site and list grow. When I see someone who leaves the list or has not participated in awhile, I feel like I have lost a friend or become concerned something is wrong.
