(back) Subject: Re: Coolant recovery tank From: <hugoba@apcom.com> Date: Sat, 3 Feb 2001 22:29:48 -0800 (PST)   My 64 Olds Vista Cruiser has a plastic bottle that wraps in front of the = drivers side fender that is for the windshield washer fluid. Unfortunately it's = cracked but I'm wondering if this is the bottle that some are seeing as the = coolant recovery bottle. Maybe some dealers installed this as a "local" option. I'll show it to the guys tomorrow and take some pictures (if I remember to = take the camera with me).   Hugo   > From Firebird-L@oakmediacreations.com Sat Feb 3 21:20:13 2001 > From: "John Wern" <jwern@gw.total-web.net> > To: "First Generation Firebird-L" <Firebird-L@oakmediacreations.com> > Subject: Re: Coolant recovery tank > Date: Sat, 3 Feb 2001 23:48:42 -0500 > MIME-Version: 1.0 > Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > X-Priority: 3 > X-MSMail-Priority: Normal > X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.71.1712.3 > > First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List > = ......................................................................... > Bob - Got any ideas or tricks up your sleeve? (back) Subject: Re: Digest #1732 & Sreadsheet From: "Ensom" <censom@home.com> Date: Sun, 4 Feb 2001 01:17:29 -0800   Have been following this forum for a while but never participated before. Two recent threads have gotten my interest so now I have to jump in. I hope it's OK to cover 2 threads.   Nice to know some support for the old Birds is available in Washington State. We can see you from where we are in Victoria, BC, but it is hard to participate in much, as the ferry cost, gas prices and about 6 hours to Seattle makes it painful. Would like to know more about WWFC perhaps some one can e-mail me off line. I will check out your site.   The second thread (the spreadsheet) has got me curious about whats still = out there. We don't have a Firebird only club here but seem to have a higher concentration of the old birds than anywhere else. I know of eight 69 convertibles (one of them mine), here in a town of only 300,000, with unconfirmed rumors of two others. I have no idea of how many other 67-69 Birds are here but possibly around 50. I did a little math with this = number (8 in 300,000) and with 300 million people in North America then there should be 8,000 of these (69 convertibles) still out there (driving). = Based on concentration here. This seems way too many if less than 12,000 were made.   Does anyone out there have any ideas on how many are left of the 69 convertibles or any of the other models? Is there a central motor vehicle registry that can/will provide us with any of these numbers? I am quite sure this information is available to the CIA or FBI (if they wanted a list of all owners for some case) but do they take requests for information? Any body got friends in such places? Geoff you don't have my car in your spreadsheet and it's the most complete registry I have seen, how do I go about filling you in? We should encourage any owners we know to submit info to the list maybe we can get them all registered. Carl White Bird censom@home.com
(back) Subject: Re: Alternators From: "scott" <saltyd@home.com> Date: Fri, 26 Jan 2001 12:44:43 -0600   Mark, I work at a shop where we change alternators and starters and such = as an everyday thing. I understand that Kragen is alot like our Autozone, and let me tell you I would never, ever, buy an electrical part from them. Instead I buy suspension parts or nuts and bolts from them but for electrical parts I always go with a better parts store. I recommend NAPA. = We have customers who sometimes insist on bringing their own parts. One day a guy brought me a starter for his 83 T/A. The starter came from Autozone, well anyway I ended up changing out 7 starters from them before I said = screw it and I went and bought one from NAPA myself, and end of problem. Then = ones from Autozone never even cranked it over a little. So I would have saved about 6 hours of labor if I had gotten one from a good store in the first place. Anyway I would take the alternator off and take it to the store = have em check it out. If it is bad you might try another but sometimes the = extra 10 or 20 dollars you save just isn't worth all the work.     > I'm interested in hearing about any experiences people have had with > alternators.

When they fail at times only ONE side will "wink" at you IF both the front and rear lights come on change the flasher first instead of changing the turn switch ! Take the hazard flasher out and put it in where the turn flasher goes to see if that is your problem.Cheap diagnostics first. Clayton 68 350 HO , 16 years ASE certified tech
