Real noisy jolt! Got me thinking a subframe connector would give me a much nicer transition angle, and help protect my = exhaust too. I will most likely make my own, and would appreciate pre install pics and or measurements from someone purchasing new. Joe, Im wondering what sort of noise you have, I have the poly control = arm bushings, road noise is increased, but suspension travel is pretty much silent. I plan to get new subframe bushings so my HEI will fit, and since = I drive in the mountains more than straightline, any handling improvement is = welcome. Theyre so easy to change, and carry a lifetime guarantee, I wouldn't worry too much about using their product. I'm wondering which wire you hooked to the idiot lamp? For a non guage/light install , small black wire jumps to larger green wire(both in the 2 pin plug available @Kragen), Green wire jumps to main (hot)wire which goes to the battery. (makes the car easier to steal, but = I haven't lost one yet) Ive had no problems with this system on vehicles as = old as '58 Chevy. I'd double check the quality of the connections of the green(feild as I remember) wire. If you can see the back of the = alternator, there is a round hole with a protrusion toward the middle kind of this = shape but more rounded: /V\ ( * ) \_/ The * represents a cone that comes from deep within the alternator to = about 1/4" inside the case. Short the protrusion to the cone to full feild the alternator. Your not supposed to do this very long. Output should immeditely hit 16V. Or yank the thing and have Kragen give you another. = I usualy discard all of the regulator wiring. From: "Pete D" <pjd805@yahoo.com> Date: Wed, 24 Jan 2001 18:35:49 -0800 (PST) Brad, You didn't mention what carb you have, although I assume it's a Q-Jet. I had a similar problem with my Q-Jet rebuild and found out the following: - Check for low vacuum; Some kits come with a base gasket that may not seal well. I found that the plastic [or phonolic] inserts (where the bolts go through) were too thick and didn't allow enough compression of the seal. I found that my vacuum was low and I suspected the base gasket. I cured this by removing and sanding down the inserts approx. .020". You don't want to take too much off because the insert prevent warping the carb when it's torqued down. Tighten the bolts just enough to compress the gasket. Also, check the vacuum tree off the back of the carb, they crack easily. - Check Float Level; it should be approx. 9/32 [or .281"]. I have mine between .250 & .260 with a high flow needle main valve. This can be done in the car if you can carefully take the top of the carb off. Also, with fuel in the bowl you can see if the float has sunk, [an undesireable condition when the float has failed]. - Make sure that the choke plate is fully open once engine is warmed up. My carb was excessively wet with fuel around the choke plate when it failed to open all the way and ran rich [of course]. I was amazed how much fuel ran UP the back wall of the primaries! Hope this helps...
